Chazi Homes - Giving Back
At Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, we help kids with disabilities smile, laugh, learn and heal. We’re Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital and a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. More than 7,400 kids come through our doors every year with autism, cerebral palsy, acquired brain injuries, amputation, epilepsy, concussion and other physical and developmental disabilities. They want to breathe on their own, become more active, talk with family, become more independent, or just feel less pain. With passionate frontline staff offering treatments, therapies and specialized programs and services, Holland Bloorview is creating a world of possibilities for kids with disabilities.
Chazi Homes has taken the initiative to make a donation. It is our first time donating to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab. We are on a mission to raise $25,000 for children in our community, so for every house, we sell this year, we donate a portion of our income to them.
WHY DO WE HELP?
In 2018, on March 6, my best friend’s son, Kye, hurt himself while playing with his father and younger brother Cole. He fell and hit his head on the ground. When he woke up with vomit and dizziness. When consulted a doctor, he suggested a head CT (computer tomography) which showed a blood clot in Kye’s brain. Surgery was to be performed immediately to remove the blood clot. SickKids’ neurosurgery team did an amazing job at removing the clot and prevented Kye’s brain from more damage. With the help of their staff and hard work in physical therapy at their hospital, Kye was able to recover to the fullest and had another chance to play with his father and brother, Cole. Before, during, and after the surgery, the hospital staff not only gave their attention to the patient but also to the guardians. They were checking up with Kye’s parents constantly and offered help when needed. The humility shown by the staff was appreciative and very hopeful to the parents.
Since then, the team has learned that it is a collection of hard-working healthcare professionals that are making their home right here in the Toronto area, all coming together unanimously for a corresponding cause. The cause is to help young people overcome unfortunate health issues that life sometimes throws our way. Holland Bloorview is over 120 years old and was started by the same woman who formed Sick Kids. More than 8000 kids come through our doors every year with a range of disabilities & medical complexities, and we have over 50,000 visits yearly. SickKids and Holland Bloorview collaborate closely because SickKids saves children's lives, and Holland Bloorview helps them achieve their goals and forge new futures through family-centred rehabilitation. Our team has committed and dedicated itself to providing outstanding service to our clients referred to us by our previous clients and donating a proportion of our income from each transaction to Holland Bloorview.
